Mrs Wadley- Midday Supervisor
Welcome back!
We hope you all had a super, restful holiday and we are looking forward to another half-term of fun!
This half-term our topic is called Land Ahoy where the children will be given the opportunity to learn about a range of explorers such as Amelia Earhart and Grace Darling. Also, they will be using and making a range of maps as well as locating key oceans and rivers around the world.
This half-term PE will be on a Wednesday morning. Therefore, all Year 2 children will be required to come to school in their PE kit every Wednesday. Our PE focus this half-term is ball skills, where they will be developing skills in throwing, catching, kicking and dribbling.
Homework - Your child will receive either a piece of Maths or English homework; this will be set on a Friday. This homework should then be returned to school by the following Thursday so that it can be marked and feedback can be given. Please encourage your child to complete their homework as independently as possible. If there are any issues regarding homework, please come and see me and I will be happy to assist you.
Times Tables - In Year 2 we will be learning to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. It is advised that you practice your child’s timetables as much as possible to aid mathematical development and fluency.
Reading– Please encourage your child to read every night for approximately 10minutes. This then needs to be recorded in your child’s reading record. In class, we will check all reading records and issue stamps to those children that read. Children will be sent home with a phonic book (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and a Reading for Pleasure book, which is to be read and shared with parents. In Year 2 we promote a love for reading, and it is a way of improving reading, writing and imagination skills.
In the event you did not attend the Meet the Teacher meeting, please see the PowerPoint presentation attached below.
Please see the curriculum plan attached below which will provide you with an insight of what your child will be learning throughout the academic year.
Please continue to check our page on a regular basis as it will be updated throughout the year.
